To recap the definition, influencer marketing is a strategy used by marketers to engage with individuals (who typically have a high level of influence on their own social media channels) to promote a message or product to their target audience. Before social media channels were popular, influencers were usually writing long-form content about products via their blog. Today, influencer marketing has evolved to multiple channels with niche audiences. This ultimately means that knowing how to select your audience is key – especially if you intend on marketing new products into new markets.
In Indonesia, a report done by AnyMindGroup concluded that Indonesian consumers are more familiar with online transactions. In fact, 88% of internet users make purchases online and 93% search online before making a purchase with categories that varied from traveling, fashion, beauty, electronics, etc. This opens up opportunities for brands and influencers to work together and bring consumers in by influencing them through social media and making a purchase through e-commerce.
In fact, a survey by Rakuten Insight in October 2020 on social media influencers showed that around 55% of Indonesian respondents said things recommended by influencers on YouTube are the ones they would buy. According to the same survey, the majority of Indonesian respondents follow at least one social media influencer.
